I am happy that Atlanta Braves’ pitcher John Smoltz made it into the Baseball Hall of Fame on his first ballot. I had a crush on him starting in 1991. Good morning, and welcome to a more musical edition of Hunky Hump Day.

Mr. RFH and I went to a Gordon Lightfoot concert last night. I’ll admit, I hadn’t kept up with his career lately, but I can sing along with his hits from the 60’s and 70’s. The running joke between Mr. RFH and me on any Gordon Lightfoot song is “Good song, turn it up”, which makes for some windows shakin’ when I play the Gord’s Gold album in the car.

My sister-in-law saw him in concert a year ago and sort of warned us that he can’t hit the high notes like he used to. I expected older but not quite so…frail. Wikipedia details his serious health problems, including a ruptured aortic aneurysm, a coma, and a tracheotomy. But by golly, he showed us why he’s in the Songwriters Hall of Fame, why dozens of artists cover his songs, and why at 76 he can still fill a concert hall.







He is still magnificent on the 12-string guitar.


So if the Hostage men call this poat ghey, I’m gonna kick ‘em in the shin.

The bassist in this video, Rick Haynes, played with Gordon in last night’s concert. Been part of the ensemble since 1968.
